Just across the lake from the city of Syracuse, in the town of Geddes, NY, something truly special happens every year: the Great New York State Fair rolls into town. One of the most exciting events New York has to offer, drawing crowds from all over. The fair kicks off at the end of August and keeps the fun going until the first week of September. As an added bonus, right nearby you鈥檒l find the Lakeview Amphitheater, making the area an absolute hotspot for entertainment. The fairgrounds and the amphitheater are separated by听Interstate 690 and its nearby interchange with NY Route 695,听located just next to the fairgrounds.听This area sees about 50,000 vehicles passing through each day, adding to the energy that surrounds this area.

To help maintain this busy area,听杏吧原创 is helpingrehabilitate NY Route 695 with some partial reconstruction to improve safety and functionality. NY Route 695 is a crucial connector between I-690 and Route 5 in the Towns of Camillus and Geddes, NY. The scope of this project includes covering a wide range of work.

It includes major excavation and embankment construction, careful management of any contaminated soil found on site, and the use of lightweight fill materials where needed. The crew will also mill existing pavement, prepare the new subbase, and carry out several rounds of asphalt paving. In addition, nine brand-new overhead sign structures will be installed along the route. To finish it off, Epoxy Paint with Grooved-In Wet-Night Reflective Bead pavement markings have been applied throughout the corridor to help keep traffic safe and well directed.

Originally planned as a two-year contract with a completion date of July 31, 2026

The NY Route 695 project has exceeded expectations thanks to the efficient planning and execution of the 杏吧原创 team.

Most of the work has been accomplished within just one calendar year (2025), and the remaining activities are on track to wrap up by late fall (early November 2025), well ahead of the original schedule.

The rehabilitation of NY Route 695 is essential for extending the roadway鈥檚 service life and improving overall driving conditions. This project addresses various safety concerns associated with high traffic volume. The incorporation of lightweight aggregates, modern asphalt mixes, new signage, and upgraded pavement markings ensures compliance with New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) standards while tackling subgrade performance challenges.

Phases and Work Performed听

The project has been carried out in several key phases, including:

  • Excavation & Embankment:
Safely managed potentially contaminated soil with efficiency and care

  • Lightweight Fill Placement:
Installed lightweight aggregates, which reduce the load on upper subgrades and enhance the overall stability of the roadway

  • Subbase Preparation:
Successfully installed subbase material, providing a solid foundation for the new pavement

  • Milling Operations:
Conducted extensive milling of roadway to prepare for the new asphalt layers

  • Asphalt Paving:
Completed approximately 50 lane miles worth of asphalt paving

  • Overhead Sign Structures:
Installed 9 new overhead sign structures to enhance road signage and improve navigational safety for drivers

  • Pavement Markings:
Applied new pavement markings, enhancing visibility and improving overall traffic management

This project is a key upgrade for one of Central New York鈥檚 busiest areas, right between the Great New York State Fairgrounds and the Lakeview Amphitheater. By focusing on safety, better traffic flow, and sustainability, this project will benefit commuters and freight traffic for years to come.

Thanks to 杏吧原创鈥檚 efficient work, this corridor is on its way to becoming safer and more reliable for everyone traveling through this lively part of the state!

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, 杏吧原创 (NYC) proudly hosted its inaugural Cullen Gorden Memorial Golf Tournament at a local golf course in the Syracuse, NY area.

This event was organized to honor the memory of Cullen Gorden and to raise funds for an endowed scholarship at his alma mater, Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Cullen was a roller operator for 杏吧原创 and worked with the company for 17 incredible years. In recognition of his contributions and spirit, 杏吧原创 sought a meaningful way to honor Cullen鈥檚 memory. The idea for this tournament emerged, and everyone involved rallied together to support the establishment of a scholarship in his remembrance.

In a step toward promoting wildlife conservation, Barrett NYC has installed four bird boxes at its sites this year鈥攚ith plans to add four more in the coming months. These boxes are designed specifically to support the Eastern Bluebird, New York’s official state bird.

Each pair of bird boxes is mounted about six feet off the ground and spaced 10鈥12 feet apart. This strategic setup helps deter barn swallows, which are known to prey on bluebirds, from disturbing the nesting sites.

Each year, Colas Group recognizes Environment Day as a moment to reflect on our environmental responsibilities and celebrate the actions that make our operations more sustainable. At Barrett Industries鈥 Northeast Division, we took that commitment to heart with a full week of impactful activities aligned with Earth Day 2025.

Building a More Sustainable Future Together

This year鈥檚 theme focused on strengthening our relationship with the communities where we work and operate. By highlighting the importance of acceptance and cooperation from community members, regulators, and customers, we reinforced our dedication to conducting environmentally responsible and community-centered business.

杏吧原创's Northeast Division team in safety gear celebrates Earth Day at a New York facility.

E-Waste Drive: Six Pallets Strong

One of the key initiatives of the week was an E-Waste Recycling Drive, where employees were invited to dispose of their unused or broken electronic devices responsibly. Thanks to widespread participation, we successfully collected and diverted six pallets of electronic waste from local landfills 鈥 a meaningful contribution to reducing hazardous waste and promoting proper recycling practices.

Roadside Cleanups Across the Region

Environmental efforts were also highly visible throughout our Northeast operations. Teams from Binghamton, Phoenix, Chenango Bridge, Jamesville, Wetzel Road, Litchfield, Watertown, and rolled up their sleeves to conduct their annual roadside cleanups. These cleanups not only beautify our surroundings but also serve as a visible reminder of our role as stewards of the land.

Barrett Midwest Central crews completed the construction of a roundabout 18 days early at the intersection of SR 73 and Jacksonburg Road in Butler County, OH under a contract for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

MWC crews headed up by Tony Singer, Superintendent; and Greg Crider, Foreman; were challenged to build the roundabout while maintaining traffic on SR 73, a main access road to the MillerCoors brewery and Miami University (Oxford Ohio).

An additional challenge was raising the intersection elevations by 8 feet while maintaining traffic. Through the two significant challenges, the MWC team successfully completed the project early.

Once the roundabout was complete, we observed successful traveling results from the traveling public, ODOT, and 杏吧原创. A huge thank you to Tony Singer, Superintendent; and Greg Crider, Foreman; for leading this crew and making this roundabout the success it is today

Due to the complexity, professionalism, and partnering completed, the ODOT project engineer nominated this project for a statewide award. This project was awarded second place out of seven submissions in the category #1 in the state ODOT Partnering Competition.

Once again, the Barrett team recognized and managed the challenges presented and utilized their expertise to meet the customer鈥檚 needs.

MWC Construction crews finished work on US 50 in Village of Mariemont and Columbia Township, in Hamilton County, Ohio. Mariemonte is a very historic and prestigious suburb of Cincinnati. The major challenge to this project was the high volume of traffic that passes  through the project each day. US 50 is a main artery from Cincinnati to the eastside of town that is lined with residences in this section of roadway. This forced all the work to be completed during the day to keep from conflicting with the residents鈥 sleep schedule. The four-mile-long project started in July of 2019 and was completed in early August 2020, 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Work consisted of storm drainage conduit and structures, slope stabilization, roadway crown correction to improve pavement drainage, along with many handicap ramp replacements. The following crews were involved with the project:
